Pets explores the dichotomy of the "Pit Bull" type dog as a beloved family pet and feared fighting dog. As opponent turned owner, I am fascinated by the near mythical level of misinformation about dogs labeled Pit Bulls (as there Pit Bull is not a breed, but a term to label a dog based on appearance).
I decided to film the play sessions of my dog, Seven, with other Pit Bulls. These loud and often intense dog interactions often terrify those unfamiliar with their play style. Pets breaks down the intense play of two Pit Bulls into a slow examination of gesture, power, and shape. The sound was purposefully removed, to emphasize the the physical interaction.
