Referential View
Referential View transforms my childhood home into a camera. My intention was to explore how the surrounding space becomes entwined with the interior spaces and memories to form the emotional contruct of home. My reference of the of the kitchen as a physical place is tied to the view through the large bay window that looks out over the backyard.
To create the photographs each room was converted into a camera obscura . The outdoor space was projected inward. I reconfigured a large format camera body to catch the projection onto 4x5 sheet film.
Referential View is a continuation of my investigation of perception and connection of place, as informed by the texts "Space and Place" and "Topophilia," by geographer Yi-Fu Tuan.
