Panchromatic
Panchromatic is a data visualization installation that was created in response to the examination of "Test Patterns," for a group show at Flux Factory in Queens, New York.
We can now observe Earth from above to gain insight into environmental features, such as polar ice cap coverage, river levels, and volcanic eruptions. The same observational technology also permits anonymous drone strikes. To calibrate aerial observational systems a test pattern is used. The black and white bar pattern in the lower right corner of the installation is one example of a test pattern used to calibrate satellites.
For this installation, Landsat GIS data, which is commonly recognized as satellite imagery, was layered and composited in Max/MSP using data sets from the U.S drone strikes in the Middle East. Panchromatic represents the divergent arms of a single technology- one arm provides information and the other destruction.
